Wanna get high? Yes, I asked that right, do you want to get high? That feeling where you’re exhilarated and on top of the world. You feel like you can conquer anything, diamond grinder type strength. Breathing heavily, sweating, heart racing, muscles pumped, every sensory heightened. This can all be accomplished while attaining a healthy body. There are these things called happy hormones, serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin coupled with endorphins can all be attained with a little bit of exercise. This activity can wipe away that sluggish day when you’re feeling “blue” or “down in the dumps”.
I have had a rough week, it just seemed like one thing after another was just getting to me and knocking me down. I skipped my regular workout a few days in a row because I was feeling “blah” I happened to have my gym bag with me today and on my lunch break I was talking on the phone with my friend who happened to hear the lethargy in my tone, the sluggishness and sadness in my voice. “why don’t you go to the gym on your break?” he suggested. I don’t know why, but I listened, I decided to do core work (to avoid getting too sweaty with something like cardio). I got there and worked so hard, I saw the gains I had made, strength I forgot I had or didn’t realize I had. I felt this surge of energy. I was on top of the WORLD! 20 minutes and I had a natural high; and the second half of my day was uplifted and feeling great. The negativity and cloud that was hanging over my head had cleared out. This positive feeling continued well into my night after the chemicals wore off, the post gym high had simmered down thus highlighting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, mind and body together.
